A flash flood is a sudden and violent inundation that can develop within minutes to hours, and it can even happen in areas not currently experiencing rainfall.

On Thursday at 5:33 a.m. the National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory valid for Friday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for Delaware and Philadelphia counties. The weather service states, "Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways."
