The first week of the Texas high school football playoffs is in the books. Here are some of the highlights from the Houston area. State-ranked teams fall We’re only one week into the postseason, and three state-ranked Houston-area teams have already been eliminated.

Some of the area winners include teams in our preseason top-10 countdown, such as Westlake, LBJ, Dripping Spring and Lake Travis. But the competition should be tougher in the area playoffs next round.

A thrilling game in Visalia came down to the wire between No. 2 Golden West and No. 7 Kingsburg. And the Trailblazers had to rally to make it happen over and over in the high school playoffs. Golden West trailed 21-11 at halftime and later took the lead before the Vikings tied the game at 28.
