The National Weather Service on Wednesday extended the wildfire warning through the end of the week for much of East County.

First discovered: 4:55 a.m. Jan. 8 A new wildfire was reported today at 4:55 a.m. in San Diego County. Centre Fire has been burning on private land. There is no update on the containment progress of the fire and its cause remains unknown.

The Santa Ana winds that stoked a huge wildfire near Malibu were beginning to snap through San Diego County late Tuesday afternoon, in the start of what could be a week or more of off-and-on lashings in a region that’s drier than it’s been in years,

The alert status for heightened combustion hazards in the county's inland valleys and mountains went into effect at 4 a.m. Wednesday and will last until 6 p.m. Friday.

Dry conditions, gusty winds, and low relative humidity are all hitting San Diego County at the same time leading to critical fire concerns for the region.

A new wildfire was reported today at 6:52 p.m. in San Diego County. Green Fire has been burning on private land. At this time, there is no data on the containment status of the fire and the cause has yet to be determined.

ABC 10News reporter Moses Small reported live from Alpine, where wind gusts could reach 75 miles per hour in the next couple of days, elevating the fire risk for San Diego County.
