The Met Office warned sleet and snow is expected to continue this afternoon and evening as they issued the rare amber alert - as much as four inches (10cm) of snow is expected in the affected region

A rare amber warning for snow has been issued across Devon and Cornwall with immediate effect. Snow has fallen across large parts of the region, including Dartmoor, forcing some schools to close and road restrictions on the A38 motorway. A yellow weather warning was already in place for the South West but the Met Office has since upgraded this.

It is the second highest level of warning and is in effect from 18:00 GMT on Saturday until midday on Sunday, with warnings of travel disruption. All counties are affected by the warning apart from Anglesey.
